Take a Hike in Pristine Beauty
Wind your way through lush forests. Breathe in fresh mountain air. Relax near a cool cascading waterfall. There's no better way to experience Shenandoah than on over 500 miles of hiking trails in the Park. Pick up trail maps at entrance stations or visitor information centers. Try a self-guided trail (guide booklets are at trailheads and information centers). For a ranger-led interpretive program, visit the National Park Service website or call (540) 999-3500.
We welcome long distance hikers! A large portion of the Appalachian Trail – 101 miles of it – goes through Shenandoah National Park. Appalachian Trail hikers are invited to stop at camp stores and waysides for groceries or supplies, enjoy a meal in one of our restaurants, or take a break from the trail and overnight at Skyland Resort or Big Meadows lodge.
