If you think the idea of traveling across a mountain wilderness, guided by only a map and compass makes for great adventure reading and daydreaming… being able to do it is even better!
Within Shenandoah National Park, there are over 500 miles of trails that are rarely explored by the average guest. Each hike will be to a destination area chosen for its natural beauty or cultural significance. The hikes include destinations such as waterfalls, mountain summits and ghost towns. Daily hiking destinations are determined by Shenandoah Mountain Guides based on seasonality and participants.
Regardless of whether you are a novice, a practiced intermediate, or an old hand, our educational programs and trips are tailored to ensure that each person is challenged to be the best they can.
Some treks feature hiking along selected segments of the Appalachian Trail for the most dramatic views in the Park. One trek is from south to north and is a nicely rolling section of the Appalachian Trail topping out at 3,812 feet atop Hazeltop Mountain, and is a bit over 5 miles in length.
A side trail to the scenic Lewis Spring Falls is an unforgettable finish to a day of hiking. Another trek is from north to south summitting Hawksbill – the highest peak in the park offering 360-degree views and blissful breezes.
Supportive walking shoes are a must and hiking poles with rubber tips are recommended.
