Waterfalls & Wildflowers hike
Within Shenandoah National Park, there is a multitude of trails off the main road and footpath (Skyline Drive and the Appalachian Trail)...almost 400 miles worth - that are rarely explored by the average guest. Each day hike will be to a destination area that is significant because of its natural beauty and/or cultural significance. Waterfalls and wildflowers are two environments for which Shenandoah is famous. Waterfalls, mountain summits, abandoned communities - each hike will be selected with the season and weather conditions in mind. As with all travel into pristine areas, Leave No Trace travel will be emphasized. (All participants will receive LNT awareness training). Lunch is provided. Supportive walking shoes are a must and hiking poles are recommended. Don't forget your camera!
Back Country & Mountain Summit hike
These trips features hiking along selected segments of the Appalachian Trail for views, accessibility and proximity to Big Meadows. Day one trek is from south to north and is a nicely rolling section of the AT topping out at 3812 ft (Hazeltop Mountain) and is a bit over 5 miles in length. A side trail to the scenic Lewis Spring Falls is an unforgettable finish to a day of hiking. Another trek is from north to south summitting the highest peak in the park (Hawksbill) along the way, offering 360 degree views and always present breezes.
