Stargazing and Night Skies Programs Don't miss one of Shenandoah's most dramatic views - the brilliant stars overhead. Far away from city lights, the park's night skies offer spectacular views of the stars. A free Night Skies program followed by stargazing with provided telescopes is offered monthly from April thru September at the Big Meadows area (mile 51.2). Program times vary, call 888.896.3833. |

| Junior Ranger Programs Rent an Explorer Backpack, available at visitor centers, for tools to help kids discover the wonders of the park. It includes a free copy of the Junior Ranger Explorer Notebook, which can also be purchased at visitor centers or gift shops and offers activities to earn a Junior Ranger sticker, patch or badge. Check out the park Visitor Guide, Shenandoah Overlook, for Junior Ranger Program schedules. Many of these programs, like 'Birds of Prey,' are fun ways for families to learn about the park together. |

| Exploring Skyline Drive Skyline Drive, designated as a National Scenic Byway, is much more than just a 105-mile road through the park - it is a way to experience it. Driving along the crest of the mountains through the woods and past spectacular vistas, you’ll likely see deer and other wildlife. |
|
| |
| You’ll pass through tunnels of trees, past wildflowers and ferns, and (in late spring) by banks of mountain laurel in bloom. There are 75 overlooks offering a place to stop and absorb the view and the peace. The 35-miles-per-hour speed limit allows drivers the opportunity to truly enjoy the ride and helps to ensure the safety of wildlife along the road. |
