History is the Best Present

big_meadows_1.jpgBig Meadows Lodge, located at mile 51.2 on Skyline Drive, is named for a large grassy meadow near the lodge where deer often graze. The main lodge was built with stones cut from the Massanutten Mountain in 1939 by the CCC and mountain laborers. The interior structure of the lodge, including the paneling, is made from native chestnut trees, which are now virtually extinct.

Big Meadow Lodge Seasonal Dates:

  • Opens May 20, 2010, 3:00 PM
  • Closes November 7, 2010, 12:00 PM*

The main lodge has 29 cozy, little rooms and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 28, 1997.  The Spottswood Dining Room, New Market Taproom and Craft Shop are located in the main lodge building. The New Market Taproom offers a lighter fare menu plus nightly family-friendly entertainment free to all Park guests. The Spottswood Dining Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Big Meadows offers a variety of Rooms & Cabins to suit the preferences of our guests. The Main Lodge, along with five cabins and six multi-unit buildings, are located within a short walking distance of the lodge and sits on approximately 10 acres of park land. Be sure to check out our Policies, which includes information about pets and our cancellation policy.

*Wednesday – November 3: Lunch and dinner will NOT be served. The Spottswood Dining Room and Great Room will be closed from 12:00 noon to 9:00pm. Big Meadows Wayside (located 1 mile from the lodge) will be open until 5:00pm. And the New Market Taproom at the lodge will serve a lighter fare menu from 4:00 to 10:30pm.
